Rodents in neighborhood

May 28, 2011 - 10:59pm

I am writing again regarding the rodent problem, specifically on Dean Street between 6th & Carlton.  I see rats running around the garbage containers at 556 Dean Street, and now we see rats running daily in & out of the single story garage next to 560 Dean Street.  Last night with 1 bag of trash out, walking home with my son, I watched 4 rats run between the trash put out for this mornings pick up & into the garage. In fact my husband informed me that there were several rats inside the bag & that it was literally moving. My 11 daughter & her friend were walking home a few minutes after us and I was afraid of what them walking to our own door at 560. Our building like every other building in NY puts our trash secured in bags the night before pick up, and for the 1 1/2 we have lived on the street, there has not been this type of problem, for the past several months, it is chronic. The garage next door to 560 is clearly infested.  In addition I have watched rats run up & down Carlton between Bergen & Dean and also on Dean between 6th & Flatbush. Our neighborhood is overrun and it has not been like this in the recent past. The construction has clearly created a new problem & the developer needs to assist our community, this is not something that can be done by one building.
